12-month contract, renewable

About the role

As Social Media Manager, you will shape how AfroShorts shows up on social media, from everyday audience conversations to campaigns that introduce our dramas to new viewers. You will translate our focus on African, Caribbean, and Black American storytelling into a consistent, distinctive voice and a practical publishing strategy. This is a hands-on role combining planning, copywriting, community management, and performance analysis.

What you will do

  • Develop a social media strategy with clear audience priorities, content pillars, and campaign objectives aligned with AfroShorts releases and growth goals.
  • Own the publishing calendar, coordinating episode highlights, trailers, behind-the-scenes content, creator features, and timely cultural conversations.
  • Write compelling captions and creative briefs, adapting the message, format, and call to action for each platform rather than publishing identical content everywhere.
  • Work with content creators and the wider team to develop engaging short-form campaigns, review assets, and keep publishing schedules on track.
  • Manage comments, messages, and community conversations with care, responding in the brand voice and escalating sensitive issues when needed.
  • Monitor platform trends and audience feedback, proposing relevant experiments while respecting the stories and communities represented.
  • Track engagement, reach, video retention, and traffic to AfroShorts; produce clear reports that explain what worked and what to change next.
  • Identify opportunities to collaborate with creators and community voices, and coordinate social activity around those relationships.

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts, supported by examples of campaigns or communities you have helped grow.
  • Strong copywriting and editorial judgement, with the ability to develop a recognisable brand voice and adapt it to different audiences.
  • A practical understanding of platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook, including native publishing tools and analytics.
  • Confidence interpreting performance data and turning it into specific creative or publishing decisions.
  • Strong organisation and communication skills, including the ability to manage a content calendar and coordinate contributions from others.
  • An informed interest in African, Caribbean, and Black American culture, entertainment, and short-form storytelling.
